Towards Sustainable Energy Consumption in Select Local Communities of North Lebanon (SUDep)
RMF recognizes that one of the most important types of investment that can be made at this point in time are those that are centered around sustainable energy. As the global community learns to deal with the realities of climate change, these kinds of investments are some of the most responsible that can be made.
This project is both a sustainable energy project, and one that focuses on empowering Local Authorities and enabling Decentralization.
The purpose of the project is to empower 4 Local Authorities in one of the poorest and most underserved areas in Lebanon to improve their annual energy expenditures, and help them design and implement innovative energy saving measures both publicly and at the private household level. Before the project implementation, these municipalities were paying up to 20% of their annual budgets on energy costs for street lighting. Reducing this percentage frees up capital to be invested and spent in other areas of municipal development.
