Enhancing economic conditions of farmers and cooperatives in Akkar, Zgharta and Dinnieh through capacity building, tools and equipment

This project was launched as an answer to the challenges faced by livestock farmers in the North of Lebanon in particular where livestock production represents one of the main activities there with 60% of farmers depending on dairy products as primary means of subsistence (more than 20,000 bovine heads). However, farmers face several challenges including the mismanagement of feeding rations and the reproductive cycle of the bovine population, thereby resulting in increased costs, wasted time, and reduced profits, further impacting vulnerable farmers’ livelihoods. The project aims at improving the quality of animal feed and management of the reproductive cycle and includes:

  • A mobile application to assist farmers with farm management and cost savings (MAZRAATI APPLICATION: available on the Apple store and Google play)
  • Training sessions on Nutritional Needs & Best Feed Ration (upskill farmers and build their capacities)
  • Two echography monitors to the two participating COOPs (increase efficiency in livestock production)
  • Echography monitors training provided (enhance skills and create livelihood opportunities)
  • Brochures to promote echography pregnancy monitor services
  • Ultrasound pregnancy diagnosis rounds conducted (upscale services provided to farmers)
